In this striking headshot, an African-American individual exudes confidence and cultural pride. Dressed in a vibrant, African-inspired shirt, their look is a bold celebration of heritage and self-expression. Their rich red locs frame their face, adding warmth and character to the portrait. With a thoughtful yet relaxed pose—face resting gently in their left hand and right hand placed on their left thigh—they create a sense of quiet introspection. Dressed in casual jeans and seated on an unseen stool, they remain the focal point against a sleek gray-silver backdrop. The balanced lighting enhances their features, drawing attention to the depth and vibrancy of both their expression and attire.

Biography

Maxwell Louis Green-Waterman is a visionary dance educator, advocate, and artist. His legacy is rooted in his godmother, Sheron Trotman, former rehearsal mistress for Dr. Pearl Primus and co-director of Howard University’s BFA Dance Program, the first at an HBCU. This lineage fuels his mission to use dance as a tool for transformation and social change.

Trained at The Ailey School and Joffrey Ballet School, he graduated Summa Cum Laude with an MA in Dance Education from CUNY-Hunter College. A recent inductee into the Ailey Teacher Certification Program, he continues Horton’s legacy, ensuring dance remains inclusive for all bodies. His leadership spans roles such as Program Director for Teens@Graham and performing with Matthew Rushing, bridging artistry, education, and advocacy.

A champion for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, he uses dance to empower communities, inspire change, and create spaces where every artist feels seen and valued.
