Biography

Peter LeBreton Merz is the Artistic Director of the Eglevsky Ballet of Long Island, with extensive experience in artistic administration, academic leadership, and choreography. He currently also serves as the Director of Regional Tours for the American Dance Competition, where he was instrumental in conceiving and implementing the organization’s first regional tour in 2021/2022, significantly expanding its revenue and reach. He has continued to lead that effort, helping to make ADCIBC one of the fastest growing classical ballet competitions in the country.

Previously, Peter was the Director of the Academy at Ballet West, overseeing substantial growth in student enrollment and revenue, and expanding the academy to multiple campuses. He also developed a successful Professional Training Division. As an Associate Professor at Point Park University, he headed the Ballet program and led several successful ensembles to participate at the finals of the Youth America Grand Prix.

Peter’s artistic administration experience includes his role as Artistic Administrator for the USA International Ballet Competition, where he managed all artistic aspects of the 2002 competition and conceived and executed the first USA IBC Gala in 2004. He holds
