Katherine Beard’s passion for ballet started as a little girl. Growing up in the suburbs of Washington DC, she began a dedicated pursuit of ballet at the Reston Conservatory, under the tutelage of Julia Cziller Redick. She received additional training at Boston Ballet, The Washington Ballet, and Joffrey Ballet in NYC. Katherine continued nurturing her love of dance as a member of Brigham Young University’s ballet company as she earned her B.A. in journalism. After graduating she moved to NYC where she worked as a freelance ballet dancer, while working at The New York Times. Later she got to blend her passion for writing and ballet as an editor at Dance Media, where she continues to write. She’s performed with ballet companies throughout New York City, Boston and the Washington DC area, with her most memorable performances being at Lincoln Center and New York Fashion Week. Since 2021 she’s danced with Festival Ballet Virginia dancing featured roles, including the Sugar Plum Fairy and Blue Bird. She’s also performed with the Jose Mateo Ballet Theater during their Nutcracker season. She also has experience modeling internationally using her ballet dancing to help her.
