Through conversations and collaboration with other dancers of color and colleagues, we named some of our personal experiences in the dance world that reinforced systemic racism. Though this is not an exhaustive list, it sheds light on some problematic power structures that contribute to continued inequity in dance.
Creating New Futures
Two collectively-written documents by arts workers (one on presenting and the second on funding) that propose a working set of guidelines for the performing arts field and that invites us to examine and transform our presenting and funding systems.
Our mission is to move from rhetoric to action, linking dialogue with praxis. Land acknowledgements are not land back. They are initial points of reckoning, of resistance and for activation. Here, we welcome you into this space by highlighting ongoing Indigenous advocacy projects alongside landback movements. Our work is rooted in advocacy, action, and change.
